Dr. Schroferstein started as an extrapolation of Jurriaan Schrofer’s modular research into a variable system. To do so, Schrofer’s sketches were dissected. Corners, geometry, lines, ratios. Everything as been extract as components in order to build a structure that could reproduce the drawings but also expand it. A grid to rule them all.

To help the body parts to connect to each others and compose a character, every letter is endowed with a skeleton of hidden lines. Dr. Schroeferstein’s “Thing” is the first born glyph set at the origin of the grid construction.

The next glyph set is Dr. Schroeferstein’s “Demon”. All corner components bend themselves to balance with the massive and angular aspect of the grid. <br>But this experiment went wrong and as the compression was really strong all lines were impacted and result as Dr. Schroeferstein’s “Creature” the third glyph set.

To control the degenerated shapes, the rounded corners were inverted. The grid was so squeezed that only remains skin on bones. The last glyph set was born. Dr. Schroeferstein’s “Monster”.

After three years the extrapolation of Jurriaan Schrofer’s work result in a composite of body parts crafted together. In a last futile attempt to give more credits to this modular typeface, a scientific principle was used. An ambiguous method witch allows to create life from a non-living typeface by turning it into a variable font. The shapes started to slowly move, breath and expand. IT’S ALIVE!
